Lana Morton

Lana
I was motivated to become a dance artist because I love to move and to communicate through unrevealed languages. Through my art, I contribute to Canada by being a carrier of our culture using my identity, my knowledge and by my search for the unknown landscapes that exist in contemporary dance and it’s creative process. By applying my art to the Learning Through the Arts program, I‘m helping teachers and students to “be” through learning. Helping to unveil a way for children to learn as they were meant to learn -- with the intelligence of their senses as well as with their minds.

Originally from the Abitibi region in northern Quebec, Lana has a BA in contemporary dance from l’Université du Quebec à Montréal. Both a dancer and a choreographer, she has taught contemporary dance and the choreographic process in schools and recreationally in the Ottawa region since 1995. As a dancer, she has participated in many creative processes with Le Groupe Dance Lab and collaborated with several local independent choreographers such as Anik Bouvrette, Yvonne Coutts and Sylvie Desrosiers with whom she toured across Canada and Portugal. She was also a member of Montreal Metaspora Danse Company by choreographer Irini Stamou for two years. As a soloist, Lana has received two grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and from the Canadian Heritage to commission original works. Since August of 2004, Lana has been touring with the musical group CHÂKIDOR where she dances her own work influenced by their traditional folk musical repertoire.

Lana has been an artist/educator with the Learning Through the Arts team since 1999.
